Established in 1914 by Stanley McDonald in La Crosse, Wisconsin, our agency has deep roots in the local community. As the agency was passed down to his son Robert McDonald, the commitment to excellence and customer-centric approach remained at the core of Stanley McDonald Agency, known as Stanley McDonald Agency, Inc.
Under the leadership of Robert's son, David McDonald, the agency took a new direction and focused on program business. With a pioneering spirit, David developed a highly successful program for the cleaning and restoration industry, expanding the scope and reach of the agency. The agency was re-named Stanley McDonald Agency of Illinois, Inc.
Today, continuing the legacy of innovation and customer service, we are proud to have James McDonald, the fourth generation of McDonalds, as the current owner of Stanley McDonald Agency. Jim has not only upheld the program legacy but also brought back a strong emphasis on supporting local businesses, fostering growth, and serving the community.
In our commitment to providing comprehensive coverage and tailored solutions, we have expanded our reach through strategic acquisitions. In 2013, we acquired Armitage, Inc dba Dave Trapp Agency, an esteemed individual and group benefits agency. This addition further strengthened our ability to offer a wide range of insurance solutions to meet the diverse needs of our valued customers.
In 2016, we expanded our services by acquiring Dale Harkness's Wisconsin Insurance Center of Viroqua, Inc. For over 50 years, this multi-line agency has been serving the local community, and their expertise and customer-focused approach align perfectly with our values. By joining forces, we have further enhanced our capabilities to cater to the unique needs of our clients.
In 2023, inspired by our growth and united strength, we re-branded to SMA Insurance Group, Inc. This new name embraces the synergy brought forth by the merging of three decades-old agencies, reinforcing our commitment to providing exceptional insurance solutions under one trusted umbrella.
